Every year, we have a family retreat in the fall for Advent, and late winter for Lent. First grade families are required to attend at least one retreat as a part of their curriculum. 

During this retreat, we keep it simple. It is a 90 minute gathering with 1st grade level prayer, community, a video on the theme, and a family craft project to do together and take home.

ADVENT: We have done a beautiful tissue paper Advent Candle suncatcher that can be hung up in the window at home and enjoyed and talked about! They learn about preparations for Christmas.


LENT: For Lent, we focus on prayer, fasting and Almsgiving. The students learn more about what the preparation for Easter is and complete a project that shows what these are. They even make the beaded rosaries for the craft! We used slightly different materials for a more realistic look, but this is overall what they put together!
