Our 7th graders benefit immensely from journaling which allows the students to think more deeply about their faith, begin to hold themselves accountable for their faith, and spark intriguing discussion on faith matters, prayer life, and the Gospel. In addition to learning about Christ's mission in the New Testament, the students begin to learn how to deepen their faith via community discussion.
We use the journal, Breakthrough: The Companion Journal which is the companion to Fr. Rob Galea's book of the same name. This book is in a colorful, engaging format which asks the students age appropriate questions about themselves, their prayer life, and relationship with God. This book follows sound theology and is intended to lead them into prayer and closer relationship with God and one another. The Catechists are equipped and encourage to read the original book for a frame of reference or share snippets of the book for the students as necessary.
